Finding the right box for your product
Make sure you choose the right box for your product, both in terms of the type of cardboard and dimensions. This is crucial to ensure the lowest possible shipping costs, as well as positive feedback from the recipient.
The cost of shipping a parcel largely depends on the length, width and height of the box. Accurately estimating the dimensions of a box will allow you to make informed shipping decisions that positively impact your bottom line. Properly assessing the dimensions of the box you need is relatively simple. You need to make sure that you optimise the size of the box to the size of the product you are shipping. Basically, the dimensions you need to know for a box are the length, width and internal or external height.
If you have a product/goods that you intend to ship then start by measuring the distance from start to finish on the longest side of the product. This is the length. Then measure the shortest side of the product. This is the width. Finally, measure the height of the product, remembering to round up a little. Once you have taken all these measurements, you can determine how much inner packaging is needed to properly protect and ship your product. When ordering a standard or custom corrugated box, specify the size of your product to the nearest 5mm. For simplicity's sake, let's assume you are shipping a stack of calendars that are 24 cm long, 24 cm wide and 13 cm high. You need to find a box that will accommodate them but does not leave too much space, which can lead to damage to the goods.
Once you have this information, you can order a box that uses the smallest internal packaging dimensions while still protecting the product. For example, you can order a custom 3-ply corrugated box with an internal dimension of 250x250x150 mm for the example above so that there is half a cm of space around the calendars and two cm of space in the height of the packaging.
At CARTONBOX, we assist you at every step of the process by selecting the correct internal box dimensions for your product. Once we receive the exterior dimensions of your product, we systematically combine this information to determine the most economical size and board to produce a custom corrugated box that fits your needs.
